While in practice, he completed a board-certification program in orthopedics (Diplomate of National Board of Acupuncture Orthopedics) in 2003 and his doctorate degree in Oriental medicine in 2007. He has been practicing Functional Medicine for the past two years. His devotion to optimal health and wellness is the basis and primary focus of his practice. He values the trust and confidence of his patients with whom he works in partnership for better health.
About the Practice:
Dr. Esquivel believes that personalized natural and preventative medicine is of the utmost importance in maintaining and achieving optimal health. At the same time, many chronic health conditions respond well to the Functional Medicine approach to the mind and body. Functional Medicine is a new and emerging science-based medicine that approaches the body from a 'systems biology' perspective. It understands that the organs and organ systems of the body work together and have tremendous influence over each other and exist in complex interrelationships. An imbalance in any of these systems can lead to health problems. The focus is on identifying root causes or imbalances that exist in the body that result in the patient's signs and symptoms and directing the treatment towards these underlying imbalances, while simultaneously addressing the symptoms. This is accomplished through extensive laboratory testing, (blood, urine, stool and saliva) and various health assessment questionnaires. The ultimate objective is to strive for self-regulation so that health can be achieved and maintained by the patient without having to rely on medicine for the remainder of their life. Nutritional supplements or botanical/herbal medicine is often needed in order to achieve the desired results in the initial stages. In the preventative model, we look carefully for signs of imbalance or less than ideal health and treat it aggressively before it progresses to late-stage or chronic disease.
Dr. Esquivel treats children as well as adults, and treats a wide range of conditions in his full-spectrum natural and preventative healthcare practice. His aim is to achieve optimal mind and body health. His education and experience in the healthcare field has enabled him to incorporate a client-centered approach to medicine that is tailored to the unique needs of his patients. He welcomes working with you and your other doctors collaboratively in achieving optimal health.
